Last Friday, October 18, the Travaasa Austin family was honored to host the Mike Beck Concert and Dinner benefitting the Joyful Horse Project. Almost 100 attendees joined in celebrating and supporting the Veteran Program through a multi-course dinner followed by live entertainment by country performer, Mike Beck.

Several Joyful Horse representatives offered inspiring words about the program’s mission to bring together wounded warriors and rescued horses to help each other heal. Event speakers included Joyful Horse founder, Beth Rand along with her cowboy facilitators and Rose Babin, the mother of severely injured Iraqi war veteran, Alan Babin. Both shared encouraging and touching stories of the program’s success.

Cowboy troubadour Mike Beck performed songs from his recent album, Tribute, and all of the concert proceeds were donated to the Joyful Horse Project.

Chef Ben Baker and his Travaasa Austin staff prepared a multi-course dinner featuring game meat and locally sourced dishes that would have impressed royalty. The dinner menu included entrees featuring venison, wild boar and antelope, all provided by Broken Arrow Ranch. Rahr & Sons Brewery paired each course with one of their craft beers to perfectly compliment the unique flavors brought to the table by the Travaasa Austin culinary team. One particularly popular pairing was the Angry Goat Weizenbock and venison/antelope mincemeat pie followed by Chef Ben’s ginger creme brûlée ice cream for dessert.

The Travaasa Austin staff is proud to be a part of this great veteran support program. “When Keith Moon, lead cowboy of our equine program, brought this idea to the table, we immediately felt that this was a chance for us to say ‘thank you’ to our veterans for their service and the Joyful Horse Project for helping them,” says Travaasa President, Chris Manning. “We are honored to support veterans in our community and hope to continue contributing to these efforts.”
